The 2005 summit of G8 industrial nations in Scotland placed the challenges of poverty and climate change at the top of its agenda. The United Nations has set its goal to reduce by half the proportion of people living on less than a dollar a day and of people who suffer from hunger, aiming to reach both goals by 2015. Each developed country has been fighting against poverty in developing nations with NGO’s as well as national bodies in charge. One of them is Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
JICA dispatches Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV’s) to Asia, Oceanania, Central and South America, Middle East, former Eastern Europe, Africa basically twice a year.
