    The Difference in Higher Education
    It has been said that it is fairly easy to enter an American college, but it is difficult to graduate. On the other hand, it is very difficult to enter a good Japanese university, but fairly easy to graduate even if you do not study hard. It is difficult to decide which is better because both educational systems have their advantages and disadvantages. However, Japanese universities are often criticized for their lenient graduation system. In this essay, I would like to review what seems to be lacking in Japanese universities, and suggest some improvements by comparing them with the US system.
    The Japanese higher education system has some advantages such as a flexible curriculum and the opportunity for students to experience social interactions such as internships, part-time jobs, and club activities. Students are able to learn the skills which they are interested in, and which are necessary in the real world. In this sense, universities are not merely places to learn academic knowledge but also to learn useful social skills applicable in the real world. However, there are disadvantages as well. The major disadvantage is, apparently, that few Japanese students study hard with a clear purpose and high motivation.
