Ring-a-ring of roses, pocket full of posies, Atishoo,

Atishoo, We all fall down. This seemingly innocent nursery rhyme which is still chanted in school playgrounds today dates back to the Great Plague in 1665, also called the Black Death.

There had been worse outbreaks of Black Death or Bubonic Plague during the middle ages, notably in 1349. The symptoms were described by the Italian Giovanni Boccaccio.
