Someone I admire a great deal is Umeko Tsuda. She was a pioneer of women’s higher education in Meiji period. She was a first women who studied abroad in the US.
What I admire most is her dedication to educate for Japanese Women. After she returned to Japan, she made a great effort to found the Women’s English School, what is now called, Tsudajyuku University.
What we should remember is that the time Meiji period is when women were encouraged to be uneducated, and subordinate to their husbands.
