Comparing the novel of “The Beach” and the movie of “The Beach”
There are many differences between the movie of “The Beach” and the novel of “The Beach”. I think the message of this story didn’t changed from the book, but there are lots of big changes in the structure and the scenario.
First, the most important change in the movie is I think about the character “Jed”. In the novel, Jed had many important jobs. For examples, he was the person who met at the waterfall and he was the person who went to “The Rice Run” with Richard. He also watched Sammy and Zeph with Richard and he was the person who looked after the Christo. However in the movie, Keaty was the man who met at the waterfall and the person who went to “The Rice Run” with Richard was Sal. Richard watched Sammy and Zeph by himself and in the movie, Etiénne was the person who looked after the Christo. In “The Rice Run”, Sal and Richard had sexual relations, and this caused the problem with Françoise. This never expected in the novel. After Sal knew Sammy and Zeph trying to come to the island, she said Richard to take back map but she doesn’t help Richard. And for replacement of Jed, Etiénne is looking Christo. In the novel, Richard kill Christo while Jed is sleeping but in the movie, Françoise tell Etiénne to leave tent. Then Richard killed Christo. I think these changes made the story very different from the novel.
